October 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - MACHILIPATNAM:

A gang of robbers gained entry into the house of a college employee and decamped with four tolas of gold and other valuables at Sukarlabad here on Saturday.

The incident came to light in the late Saturday night. According to police, the miscreants entered the house of 41-year-old woman, L. Sunitha, while her husband Madhubabu was away in Vijayawada for some personal work.

On Saturday evening, the robbers tied both hands of Ms. Sunitha, who was alone in the house, and pressed a pillow on her face to prevent screaming.

They snatched the gold chain from her neck and decamped with around Rs. 14,000 in cash, before locking the house from outside.

Mr. Madhubabu grew suspicious when his repeated phone calls from Vijayawada went unanswered and informed his relatives in Machilipatnam to visit his house.

At around 10 p.m., Mr. Madhubabu reached Machilipatnam from Vijayawada at around 10 p.m. and by that time the neighbours broke open the lock of the house and found Ms. Sunitha lying unconscious on the floor.

Upon being informed, police rushed to the spot and sent Ms. Sunitha to Machilipatnam government hospital.
