Members of the Rayalaseema Joint Action Committee (RJAC) have expressed displeasure over the protest by the Guntur Bar Association on Monday against any move to shift the High Court from Amaravati.
RJAC member and former Kurnool Bar Association president Y. Jayaraju said that Kurnool deserved the High Court according to the Sribagh pact made in the erstwhile Andhra State.
“After bifurcation, we have reverted to Andhra State, and the Sribagh pact must be followed,” he added.
He said that of all the districts of Rayalaseema, Kurnool remained underdeveloped. “Chittoor has Sri City and Tirupati, Anantapur is an educational hub and also has KIA Motors and Kadapa has the steel plant. But, there is no proper development in Kurnool,” he said.
Ravi Guvera, member of the RJAC and the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council, said the city already had the infrastructure for the High Court and it would reduce the travel time for the lawyers of both the Telugu States.
“It is barely a three-hour journey from Hyderabad to Kurnool. Lawyers of both States can easily manage better if the High Court is in Kurnool,” he felt.
Mr. Jayaraju and Mr. Guvera said the RJAC would launch protests if the government did not allocate the High Court to Kurnool.
