Ritual with a difference

Continuing the age-old practice followed every year on the day after Ugadi festival, washermen colourfully decorated their donkeys and bulls, made them draw wooden carts and run around the marshy premises of Sri Chowdeswari Devi temple at Kallur near Kurnool on Saturday night.

Hundreds of women carried jyothis (lights) in Nandikola seva to the temple and the devotees had a darshan of Sri Chowdeswari Devi. Male devotees performed feats. Devotees in large numbers participated in the ritual.
