The former Bharatiya Janata Party president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, has said that the influence of the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on voters across the country was confirmed by the election results.
The results will be repeated even in the State when the general elections will be held next year, Mr. Naidu told a press conference at the party office here as the elections trends started to appear.
Clear signals He said the results sent out three clear signals, the first and foremost being a strong anti-Congress wave in all sections of people. They were vexed with the Congress and wanted to teach it a lesson.
People wanted the BJP as an alternative and backed development and good governance as election planks. The results in Madhya Pradesh endorsed the welfare programmes of the BJP government.
Mr. Naidu said no amount of false propaganda and promises by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi impressed the voters.
The Congress heaped abuses on the BJP as a corrupt party without making a mention about its own wrongdoings. Ms. Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gave some arrogant speeches which did not go down well with the voters.
In Rajasthan, the Congress government made last hour promises with a burden of thousands of crores of rupees. The Aam Aadmi Party cashed in on the anti-Congress wave in Delhi with profound statements. All these were no impediment to the influence of Mr. Modi.
The reasons for the BJP not fully exploiting the anti-Congress wave in Delhi would be analysed, he added.
Sympathy factor In Chhattisgarh, sympathy factor alone worked in favour of the Congress as its leaders and activists were massacred by Maoists in Bastar region. Otherwise, the BJP would have won with a bigger margin.
The BJP leader expressed confidence that the BJP will maintain its winning streak in Parliament elections.
