Pressing for action: A rally being taken out demanding the arrest of the kidnapper, in Guntur on Monday.

Women and civil society groups on Monday demanded that the Guntur Rural police nab the accused who kidnapped a 13-year-old girl student.

The girl’s parents submitted a memorandum to Collector Kona Sasidhar, who promised that investigation into the case would be expedited.

“It’s been a month since my daughter has been kidnapped and the police still have no clues about the accused. The photo of the accused being circulated was taken from his Facebook page and it’s more than 10 years old,’’ said the father of the girl. All India Democratic Women’s Association state secretary D. Rama Devi alleged that shoddy investigation was responsible for the delay in nabbing the accused.

It was on April 21, the Class 8 student hailing from Bhattirpolu boarded an auto driven by S. Nagamalleswara Rao, a BSF constable sacked from service. The man normally drops her at school at Ilavaram, located 10 km away from the village. But the girl never returned home since then.
