‘Replicate Kuppam drinking water model across the State’

September 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed officials to replicate the Kuppam drinking water model across the State and invite corporates and industrialists to take up the initiative. At a review meeting with Panchayat Raj officials at Vijayawada, he said: “There can be no compromise on drinking water supply to every household.

“Try providing mineral water to residents of Chittoor and Anantapur districts. Market the Kuppam model of drinking water supply. Provide drinking water to villages in dire need of water.”

Stating that department was lagging in recharging structures, the Chief Minister directed officials to take immediate measures to recharge existing structures and ensure that rain water was stored efficiently. “Complete all the old works under rural drinking water supply scheme on a war-footing. We need to provide at least 30 TMC of drinking water in the coming years,” he added.

Meanwhile, he asked officials to come out with an action plan to provide mineral water to remote pockets in Anantapur and Chittoor districts. “Work out a plan to meet drinking water needs of fluoride-hit villages. This should include immediate plan, intermediate plan and a long-term plan,” the Chief Minister added.

He also wanted the rain water harvesting pits in the State to be upgraded under NREGS programme. This could be done by increasing accountability of Sarpanches, he added. “While providing water to households in these districts, we can fix metres at panchayat-level to monitor the supply and charge for maintenance,” he said.
