Director General of Police (DGP) K.V. Rajendranath Reddy has said that reorganisation of the Police Department will be done once new districts are created in the State.

He said that a team comprising Additional Director General (Law and Order) Ravi Shankar Ayyanar and other police officers has been studying various aspects of the proposed reorganisation.

With the government beginning the process for creating new districts by Ugadi (Telugu New Year’s Day), the team has been visiting the proposed new district headquarters and the revenue and police sub-divisions for setting up new offices.

“The team is examining the aspects of creation of new commissionerates, districts and sub-divisional offices. A report will be submitted to the government soon,” Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said after assuming charge on Saturday.

The DGP hinted at shuffling of some officers to meet the requirements of the new set-up. The services of the Mahila Police working in village and ward sachivalayams will be utilised, he said.

Focus will be laid on prevention of cybercrime, crime against women, Maoist activities, red sanders’ smuggling, drugs and ganja cultivation and peddling. The Operation Parivarthana, aimed at destroying ganja plantations on the Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) and in East Godavari forests will continue, the DGP said.

Stating that people’s cooperation was needed for the police to maintain law and order, Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said the DIGs, SPs, DSPs and Station House Officers (SHOs) should try to solve people’s problems in districts.

Stern action will be taken against those who try to take the law into their hands and resort to attacks on government offices and public servants. Similarly, action will be taken against the staff who neglect their duties, ill-treat and harass victims, the DGP warned.

Efforts are on to render better services to the public through evidence-based police system (providing video conference system in all police stations), Disha App and Disha Mahila Police Stations and improve road safety in the State, Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said.
