Ahead of the Central team’s two-day visit to the State, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sent a delegation of Ministers to New Delhi to urge the Centre to come to the rescue of the farmers in the State.

Agriculture Minister Somireddi Chandramohan Reddy and others on Wednesday submitted three memoranda to Union Minister of State of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Krishna Raj urging her to take necessary steps to purchase the paddy damaged due to cyclones.

Mr. Chandramohan Reddy said that the Central government was requested to approve the proposal for ₹1,970 crore towards payment of input subsidy to the affected farmers due to drought in 2018 and the Phethai cyclone. The farmers suffered losses to the tune of ₹108 crore due to Phethai cyclone. Also,₹ 1,862 crore was required towards drought relief in Anantapur, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, Prakasam and Nellore districts, he said.

Crop insurance

The Central government was also requested to consider the request to share the burden relating to crop insurance claims. As many as 79,750 farmers would be benefited, he said.

The Union government was urged to sanction 13 pending AICRP schemes at the earliest.

Civil Supplies Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, MPs K. Rammohan Naidu, Galla Jayadev, Sitaramalakshmi, and Maganti Babu were present.

The Central team would visit the State on January 31 and February 1 to assess the loss due to Phethai cyclone.
