A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her relative in a lodge here in the wee hours of Monday.
Ongole Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Srinivasa Rao said the girl studying in ninth standard was brought out of the SC Girls Hostel in Kandukur on Sunday by her relative C. Dattaiah (40), on the pretext of visiting an eye doctor for a check up. The DSP said he bought her goodies and the unsuspecting girl accompanied him to Ongole, as she had met him on a few occasions along with her mother.
After convincing the girl that it was unsafe to travel in the night, Dattaiah checked into a lodge along with her after entering his name as the girl’s father in the lodge register.
He committed the offence early on Monday before fleeing from the lodge leaving the girl behind, the DSP said.
The girl was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences here for examination and treatment. Registering a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) and IPC sections 363 (kidnap) and 375 (rape), the police have launched a manhunt for Dattaiah, who hailed from Ayyavaripalem, near Marripudi. Meanwhile, Collector Sujatha Sharma called on victim at the RIMS and consoled her.
She promised to take necessary action in this regard.
