It is aimed to create awareness among people about the perennial water shortage in the region

Rayalaseema activists have announced to launch a bus tour across the four districts to create awareness among the public on the injustice meted out to the region before and after the bifurcation of united AP.

Named ‘Rayalaseema Chaitanya Yatra’, the tour will cover every mandal in the region in a span of three months. The yatra will begin at Adoni, the place known for acute water shortage in the perennially drought-prone region, on February 14.

As the day will coincide with the auspicious ‘Ratha Sapthami’ when Lord Vishnu is believed to travel on his divine chariot, the organisers preferred to start their bus tour on this day.

Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi (RPS) president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy would spearhead the movement. “This yatra is meant to create an awakening among the masses about the raw deal meted out to the region. This will certainly act as a precursor to the Statehood demand”, he announced at an introductory meeting conducted here on Wednesday.

He flayed the State government for concentrating development in the two Godavari districts, Visakhapatnam city, Guntur and Krishna districts.

Citing the CII investment summit held at Visakhapatnam recently, he said a mere Rs.1,200 crore was meant for Rayalaseema out of the proposals worth Rs.3.8 lakh crore supposedly received for the entire State. “Is this not a step-motherly treatment?” he wondered. “In the absence of any concrete assurance or development plan from the State, there is little hope among the people”, said Bhuman, president of Centre for Rayalaseema Studies.
