The Seventh Additional District Judge Court on Saturday rejected the bail plea of the accused in a rape case filed by the daughter of a retired IAS officer.
The complainant had accused her brother-in-law of raping her when she was eight months pregnant. She had also filed another case against her in-laws accusing them of tormenting her for dowry. The in-laws have secured anticipatory bail.
Arguing that the allegations were false, Arun Kumar, counsel for the accused in the rape case, furnished reports to the court that medical tests conducted on the complainant — as part of her routine gynaecological examination within days after the alleged incident took place — did not indicate rape.
The complainant subsequently petitioned to the court seeking permission to assist the public prosecutor Mahantappa, which was opposed by counsel for the accused. However, the court allowed the petition and the complainant submitted written objections against the bail application.
Counsel for the complainant expressed happiness over the rejection of the bail and said truth would prevail. The advocate for the accused said they would approach the High Court.
