ITDA project officer Gandham Chandrudu has asked field assistants, ICDS staff and Anganwadi workers to give top priority to pregnant tribal women who were not getting nutritious food.
Addressing a meeting here on Thursday under ‘Amrutha Hastam’ , he said that 22 per cent new born babies were underweight and mortality rate of mother and child was high in the country. He said the government has introduced ‘Amrutha Hastam’ in the Agency area from January this year to prevent nutrition problems .
The ITDA Project Officer said that midday meal with 1,053 calories was being given to an adult through this scheme. He said that Anganwadi centres and other shelters where poor tribal people assemble should be given milk for the children up to the age of four years to keep them healthy.
Later, the project officer has inaugurated a three-day training programme for the fishermen as part of reservoirs development scheme with funds from the National Fisheries Development Board. Stressing the need for obtaining expertise on fishing similar to the fishermen in coastal areas, he said that the National Fisheries Development Board has allocated Rs 9 lakh to cultivate juvenile fish in the reservoirs in the agency area and Rs 1.68 lakh for training.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that displaced people of various projects should get livelihood through marine wealth in Surampalem, Bhupathipalem and Musurumilli projects.
