Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday called upon BJP activists to widely propagate the welfare programmes being implemented by the Modi government at Centre.

“There is growing support for Mr. Modi’s leadership everywhere. This is a big opportunity for party workers to take BJP to every household and constantly remind the people of all the good work being done in the country now,” he said.

Mr. Venkaiah Naidu visited the party office here and interacted and received representations from the activists who came from all over the district.

Mr. Naidu advised the party leaders and workers to speed up the strengthening of the party at the grassroots and complete the process of setting up all the 2,450 booth-level committees in the district. The activists must ensure that benefits of the welfare programmes reach the doorstep of the common people, he said.

Refuting criticism against the BJP, Mr. Naidu said the GDP growth rate had come down only by a fraction while Mr. Manmohan Singh and Mr. Chidambaram had predicted nearly 2% decline under the Modi government. Mr. Naidu said even the Maoist problem and also Kashmir disturbances were inherited from the previous government but the BJP government had made sure that many developmental programmes take a fillip in many places including all the 24 trouble-free districts in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated a health camp for ENT patients conducted in association with the Care Hospitals at the Swarna Bharat Trust, located at Venkatachalam near here. He suggested people to take health insurance policy as a counter against the rising costs of health care.

He said the Centre had proposed to set up one medical institution in each district.
