Pregnant woman dies due to lack of ‘timely treatment’

Officials inquiring about the incident

A 28-year-old pregnant woman died allegedly owing to lack of timely treatment and poor road connectivity, in Gunjuvada Panchayat under Pedabayulu police station limits in Visakhapatnam Agency.

Though the incident occurred four days ago, it came to light on Sunday.

According to sources, the woman, identified as K. Lakshmi, was reportedly taken to a rural medical practitioner (RMP) by her family members for treatment. On her way to the RMP, the woman reportedly walked several kilometres and then was carried in a makeshift ‘doli’ owing to poor road connectivity.

“After treatment, the woman returned home, where she developed labour pains. She died of excessive bleeding,” sources said.

Pedabayulu police and Revenue Department officials are inquiring about the incident. Sources on the Police Department said that exact reasons for her death

Police sources said as the habitation is in the interior area of the Agency, it is difficult to ascertain the exact distance covered by the woman on foot.
