A day after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu organised the Nava Nirmana Deeksha, taking a resolve to make Andhra Pradesh a developed State, YSR Congress chief and the Leader of Opposition Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy held a ‘Praja Ballot’ here on Wednesday to expose the TDP government.
During his two-day ‘Samara Deeksha’ that began here, Mr. Jaganmohan distributed questionnaire having 100 queries on the poll promises made by Mr. Naidu . The questions ranged from loan waiver, recruitment in government services, unemployment wages, sops to weavers, pattas to assigned lands and etc.
Each question has two options--yes or no. During his address, Mr. Jaganmohan said that Mr. Naidu had reneged on all poll promises including waiving off farm loans, providing jobs, providing monthly unemployment wage of Rs. 2,000, special status for the State and ‘cheating land owners in capital region by pooling their lands sans proper compensation.
The YSRC chief asked party leader Ambati Rambabu to read out the questions from the dais and each question was followed by a roar from the gathering. “The plight of farmers has worsened over the last one year, with many of them being forced to commit suicides. Moreover, he forced land owners to part with their land on the pretext of building a world class capital. I am giving a call to people to fight for their rights and I will speak in detail about these issues in my concluding speech on Thursday,” Mr. Jagan said.
The YSRC president arrived in the deeksha venue an hour behind the schedule. However, a host of cultural programmes, including the mimicry performance by Siva Reddy, kept the participants enthused. Party leaders said that their leader travelled by road to Hyderabad after missing his flight.
Meanwhile, YSRC leaders staged a sit in alleging that police had failed in providing enough security cover for their party president, a charge that was refuted by the Guntur Urban Police.
MLA Ch. Bhaskar Reddy alleged that police had not deployed enough security. He had even called in the personal security of the party MLAs and MPs to stand guard near the dais.
Countering the allegations, Guntur Urban SP Sarva Sresth Tripathi said that adequate security cover, with a number of personnel in mufti, was ensured at the venue and on the national highway.
