Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said that passport services were being brought within the reach of people in all the districts keeping in mind the increasing needs of citizens going abroad in search of jobs or visiting their family members and relatives.
Stating that many people were seeking passport these days, Mr. Naidu asserted that these services would be offered in all the 13 districts in the State in a phased manner.
Speaking after inaugurating the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra here, Mr. Naidu said this was the 51st such facility in the country that was aimed at facilitating people to access passport services without requiring to travel long distances.
He said that these centres would be jointly operated by the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Postal Department. The Nellore kendra had a capacity to handle 150 passport applications a day.
MODI initiative
Mr. Naidu called upon the people to join the ‘Making of Developed India’ (MODI) campaign and make their valuable contributions to making the towns and cities liveable by ensuring a clean and green look.
Talking about the development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Mr. Naidu said there was a huge opportunity for growth, and the Chief Ministers of both the States should make combined efforts to take advantage of the developmental initiatives at the Central level.
Mr. Naidu underlined the importance being given to the delivery of services to the people at the national level, saying that for effective distribution of benefits to the poor, linkage of Aadhaar data relating to nearly 28.20 crore people in the country had been done.
Minister for Municipal Administration P. Narayana lauded the support being extended by the Centre with regard to developmental schemes and cited the ₹1,000 crore underground drainage and drinking water projects for Nellore as an example of that commitment.
