‘Programmes will be organised soon to sensitise MTC sanitation workers’

The member of National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Jagadish Hiremani, during a surprise inspection of the ESI Hospital here on Sunday, expressed displeasure over the poor hygiene on its premises.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Hiremani asserted that the surprise inspection was conducted to assess the quality of healthcare services being offered, as reported by the sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT).

Workers’ welfare

Briefing about the activities of the ESI Hospital, its Superintendent Bala Shankar Reddy informed Mr. Hiremani that medical services were being offered to the ESI health card holders.

Later, Mr. he inspected the wards, drinking water facilities and etc., and interacted with the workers at the hospital and enquired about their salaries, facilities offered to them.

Mr. Hiremani further said that he had a discussion with the district Collector and urged the officials concerned across Chittoor district to focus on four major aspects— benefiting the health/sanitation workers at government institutions such as sanctioning of protective gear, disbursement of salary according to Payment of Wages (Amendment) Act-2017, sanction of residence through various housing schemes and financial support to the beneficiaries including the loans from various governmental departments.

Besides this, Mr. Hiremani further said that the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati would be conducting an awareness programme for the health and sanitation workers.
