Police have taken up a massive campaign to stop cockfights in the Konaseema area, a hub for the blood sport, after the High Court banned it.

Police have arranged flexies in all most all the 16 mandals in Amalapuram police sub-division warning people against indulging in cockfights.

Autorickshaws and vans tied with loudspeakers were moving in Amalapuram, Mummidivaram, Razole, Kothapeta, Ravulapalem and other vulnerable mandals to send the message across.

Bindover cases

Deputy Superintendent of Police A.V.L. Prasanna Kumar said they had conducted meetings with known punters and organisers at 25 places in 16 mandals and recovered more than 200 knives from different places. Mr. Prasanna Kumar said 35 bindover cases were booked on punters and organisers in the area.

He said raids would be carried out in coordination with the Excise Department to unearth illicit liquor which is sold during the festive season.
