Police foil plan to kill UoH VC

The East Godavari police on Friday night arrested two youth on charges of conspiring to kill Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad (UoH) P. Apparao.

Addressing presspersons here, Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni said the duo allegedly hatched a plan to kill Mr. Apparao on the directions of Maoist party state committee secretary Haribhushan alias Yapa Narayana, and central committee member Chandranna. He claimed that the the two youth confessed that the Maoists wanted to take revenge for HCU student Rohith Vemula’s alleged suicide, and the duo had studied in HCU during the incident.

Mr. Gunni said that when a police party was conducting vehicle checks on Bhadrachalam-Charla road, when they intercepted a vehicle in which the duo was travelling to Hyderabad. When questioned by the police, the two youth did not give a proper reply and on further questioning reportedly revealed their “murder plan”. The SP said the accused have been identified as Ankala Prithviraj (27) is resident of Keesarapalli village in Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district, and Chandan Kumar Mishra (28) of Howrah in West Bengal.
