A group of advocates alleged that police were harassing them when they visited stations along with their clients and appealed for stepped-up vigil at police stations.

They alleged that the Satyanarayanapuram police were harassing a person, K. Praveen Kumar, in a family dispute case.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, advocates P.Y. Kiran Kumar, M. Rajashekar and K. Venkatesh alleged that the Satyanarayanapuram police registered cases against Praveen Kumar even after he surrendered in the court and obtained bail.

His house was raided on Monday, they alleged.

Meanwhile, at a separate press conference, North Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Sravani clarified that Mr. Praveen Kumar, who was married, was in a live-in relationship with a woman and had been harassing her for a few months.

Case registered

Following a complaint, a case was registered against him under Section 354 (d) (stalking a woman, following her to damage her reputation).

“The victim alleged that Praveen and his friend N. Prasad attacked her when she was coming to the police station, and that they had threatened her to withdraw the case. The case is being probed thoroughly,” the ACP said.
