49 persons arrested and equal number of vehicles seized in Nellore district

Stepping up raids against smugglers of Silica sand, Nellore police have arrested 49 persons and seized an equal number of heavy vehicles with the construction material across the SPSR Nellore district.

The raids followed information on illegal transport of the construction material using heavy vehicles from different places in Gudur sub-division to neighbouring States, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, without valid documents to make quick money.

Fine imposed

A fine of ₹5.49 lakh was imposed against the operators of 15 heavy vehicles by the officials of the Transport and Mines Departments. Cases were booked under the provisions of IPC 379 and Sec21(4) of the Mines and Minerals Act against them.

Giving a stern warning to Silica mines owners and transporters of the Silica sand against flouting government norms, Gudur Deputy Superintendent of Police B. Bhavani Harsha urged public to pass on any information about illegal movement of sand to him on 9440796340 and to the police stations concerned in Gudur sub-division.
