September 20, 2015 02:37 pm | Updated 02:37 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Just four days after the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu performed special pujas to mark the confluence of Godavari-Krishna rivers, the Polavaram Right Main Canal, through which Godavari waters reach Krishna, suffered a breach at Janampeta village in West Godavari District late on Saturday evening.

According to irrigation officials, the breach was at the temporary arrangement made for bank connection to aqueduct to let water passage over Thammileru stream.

Officials claimed that there was no major damage to the Polavaram Right Main Canal as the aqueduct was constructed nine metres above the canal.

Since it was raining for the last few days, the temporary aqueduct suffered a breach and the Godavari water was flowing into the Thammileru stream. Officials said pumping from upstream was stopped and rectification measures being taken up.

The spot is about 105 km from Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project and officials claimed rectification will be completed in three to four days.
