Plans are afoot for modernisation of as many as 23 Comprehensive Protected Drinking Water (CPW) supply schemes in the district, said Collector Siddharth Jain.

He was talking to media persons after inspecting the Over-Head Service Reservoir (OHSR) and filter bed abutting the Wyra reservoir, near Wyra town on Monday.

He said proposals to this effect have already been prepared and about to be sent to the government.

Modernisation of the CPW schemes would help strengthen the water supply distribution network including replacement of old pipelines and renovation of filter beds. The modernisation plan envisages provision of latest water testing equipment to the laboratories for effective analysis of the quality of water.

This would ensure supply of quality drinking water and effective management of the water resources.

The government has already released Rs 8.5 crore for proper maintenance of the CPWs.

The government has sanctioned Rs 245 crore for the upcoming new CPW projects in Madhira, Bhadrachalam, and other mandals in the district.

He said a team comprising the District Panchayat Officer, CEO of the Zilla Parishad, Superintending Engineer of the Rural Water Supply Department will monitor the water testing process across the district.

He said that a plan was on the anvil to allot two boats as part of tourism promotion activities at Wyra reservoir.
