Pilgrim turnout declines

Inclement weather in Chittoor district and elsewhere has led to decline in the number of pilgrims to Tirumala. On Thursday, 31,871 devotees visited the temple of Lord Venkateswara, which is half the average turnout of pilgrims per day.

According to TTD officials, the entire darshan time was reduced to one hour, mainly due to dip in the number of devotees. On December 1 (Tuesday), the number of pilgrims who visited Tirumala was registered at 45,160, and it touched 47,548 the next day. Incessant rains and lack of proper transport facilities prevented devotees from visiting the temple. The Hundi collections has also declined due to these factors.
