A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public address at the Amaravati foundation ceremony, muffled voices of dissent in TDP ranks began to surface.
Guntur MP and a member of the Capital Advisory Committee Galla Jayadev said on Friday that he was “personally disappointed” with the PM’s speech but vowed to raise his voice in Parliament for getting industrial incentives and financial assistance for various projects in the State.
In another development, a party MLA, who had been vocal in his opposition to the division of the State, dropped hints that he was “extremely disappointed” not only with the PM’s speech but also with the importance given to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
“We [TDP] are an ally of the NDA government, and hence, we cannot fight against the government like an Opposition party. But, I will work on ways in which we can be compensated for the loss of special category status. This is an emotional issue, and we appeal to people not to be carried away by the propaganda of the Opposition,” Mr. Jayadev said.
Seeking to set the record straight, the MP went back to the times when the State had been embroiled in a prolonged agitation against bifurcation two years ago, saying that political leaders had failed to read the situation.
“Had we concentrated our energies on seeing things beyond bifurcation, we would have fought for a better package for the State. At least now, I urge all political parties to fight to get more incentives for the State. The agitation for special category status is an emotional issue like the agitation against the division of the State,” Mr. Jayadev said, dropping subtle hints on his party’s stand on the issue.
