People urged to donate blood

An innovative awareness camping with new slogan ‘Thank You for Saving My Life’ was launched on Sunday in Srikakulam for the promotion of blood donation. Srikakulam District Administration, Indian Redcross Society and the Field Publicity Department and other organisations conducted a rally on the occasion of the World Blood Donors Day’.

A human rally was also formed to draw the attention of the people over the benefits of blood donation. Speaking on the occasion, Joint Collector-2 P. Rajanikantha Rao said that many lives can be saved with the donation of blood. Field Publicity Officer G. Kondala Rao, Indian Red Cross Society chairman P. Jaganmohana Rao said that there was huge gap between the demand and supply of the blood in the district. \According to them, the district needed 35,000 units of blood per year but the availability was only 12,000 units. Blood donation camp was held in RIMS, Srikakulam also on the occasion of the World Blood Donors Day.
