Ahead of ‘Rohini Karte’, the peak of summer, Ongolites reeled under oppressive heat on Tuesday.
The mercury shot up to 43° Celsius on Tuesday, the highest recorded till now this summer. The minimum temperature too was high at 32° Celsius.
Normally busy, the Church Centre, the Gandhi Road and also the Kurnool Road wore a deserted look by noon as people preferred to remain indoors.
Sweltering heat
Those with pressing engagements tried all ways to beat the sweltering heat.
Hawkers selling fruit juices, tender coconuts, water melons and Palmyra fruit did a brisk business. The condition of those who remained indoors was no better as they were forced to sit before air coolers or in air-conditioned rooms.
The maximum temperature is likely to go up to 46° Celsius during the later part of this week and early next week, according to the weatherman.
