Urging people to refrain from using plastic flags during the Independence Day celebrations, Senior Assistant in the Irrigation Department G. Maheswarappa, pedalled to spread awareness on the issue, here on Sunday morning.

Garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the District Collectorate, Mr. Maheswarappa took his bicycle around the Kurnool Government Hospital, the Rajvihar Centre, the RTC Bus Stand, the Bhaskar Reddy Circle and concluded at Kondareddy Buruju. He will pedal every day until August 14 in various parts of the city.

With the tricolour fixed to the handle of his bicycle, he highlighted the cause with a poster declaring - Ban Plastic Flags to Save Environment.

In the past four years, Mr. Maheswarappa has been taking out rallies to spread awareness on Swachh Bharat, Swachh Andhra Pradesh and Neeru Chettu, programmes aimed at saving the environment.
