Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan on Friday assured the fishermen of Gangavaram that he would take their problems to the notice of the government and fight for their rights.
Hundreds of people gathered, whistled, and raised slogans such as ‘Power Star’ when Mr. Pawan visited Gangavaram and addressed the villagers near the Ramalayam.
Pollution
Expressing concern over rising pollution caused by the Gangavaram Port, which, he said, was resulting in health problems for the villagers, Mr. Pawan Kalyan called for a change in the situation.
‘Pull up MLAs’
“I have come as a family member and not as an outsider. I have no power. But I can talk and strive to alleviate your problems by bringing them to the notice of the government. You should pull up the MLAs whom you have voted to power when they come again for votes,” Mr. Pawan Kalyan said. “I had campaigned for the BJP and the TDP in 2014. I said I would approach you if they fail to fulfil their election promises. Now, I have come to seek your support as both these parties failed miserably,” he added.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan is camping in the city.
He is scheduled to launch his Statewide bus yatra from Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district on May 20.
The yatra in the north Andhra districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam will last 45 days. The JSP chief is said to be spending more time in reaching out to people with an eye on the 2019 elections.
