The second day of the annual Pavitrotsavams, meant to be a purificatory ritual, witnessed offering of the sacred ‘Pavitra Mala’ to the deity of Sri Govindaraja at the TTD temple here on Tuesday.

Joint Executive Officer P. Basanth Kumar, who took part in the special event at the ancient shrine, said that the ritual is conducted in every temple once a year to ward off the ill-effects of sins committed inadvertently by the religious and non-religious staff and even pilgrims. The sacred and colourful garlands woven with silk threads were adorned on the deities in the various sub-shrines inside the temple complex. The three-day event will come to a grand close with ‘Purnahuthi’, the concluding ceremony to the Homam, on Wednesday.

Special Grade Deputy Executive Officer V. Varalakshmi and other officials took part.
