Pattiseema: Chinese engineers synchronising motors

Pumping of Godavari water after breach is plugged; 3 more pumps tobe ready by October 15

October 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - PATTISAM:

At last, the pumps and motors for Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) from Shanghai, China have reached this village in West Godarvari district , where engineers and workers are putting their complete energy to start at least four pumps by Thursday, but in the last minute they have postponed it to October 15.

The engineering experts from Shanghai Electricals are assisting local engineers and technicians in fixing the motors and pumps at different wells and the erosion of river bank became a major hurdle.

“We have tried our best to erect three more pumps along with the first pump which has already been completed. However, we are forced to postpone the erection works as we have to excavate huge quantity of soil inside the wells,” said V.S. Ramesh Babu, Superintendent Engineer of PLIS. He attributed the delay to the sudden floods in June and also from second week of September, which eroded the sand and soil along the river bank.

The original motor and pumps reached Pattiseema from China on September 21 and the installation of pumps and motors started from the next day in place of the 6th pump and motor of Hundri-Neeva which were hurriedly fixed on Sept. 16. “The pumps brought from Kurnool were sent back on Oct. 2 of and they already reached Handri-Neeva project site,” said an engineer at Pattiseema project site.

SE Mr. Ramesh Babu and Engineers from China are monitoring the installation process of the 4.71 MV motors and three more new pumps, each having the capacity of 354 cusecs of water pumping per hour.

Asked about lifting of Godavari waters from these pumps, Mr. Ramesh Babu said first of all, the 20-foot breach to Polavaram Right Canal at Janampeta in Pedavegi mandalshould be plugged and then only they will release water through PLIS.

“According to the information given to me, it will take a maximum of a week or 10 days. Then we will release water from the lift scheme,” he added
