Jubilation: Junior shuttle players celebrate the victory of Srikanth with his parents, K. Krishna Mohan and Radha Mukunda, at his house in Guntur on Sunday.

On a day when Kidambi Srikanth capped off a super season after winning the Australia Open Super Series Men’s single titles on Sunday, their modest apartment at Chandramouli Nagar bustled with excitement.

Shuttlers from the NTR Municipal Stadium, where Srikanth had learnt his basics, visited the home to share the happiness with his parents, Kidambi Krishna Mohan and Radha Mukunda.

“We are very happy with the tremendous performance of Srikanth. The entire credit goes to his coach Gopichand. We hope that Srikanth will continue his form and win the world cup to be held in London in August and 20-20 Championship,’’ said Mr. Krishna Mohan.

Srikanth, who is working as Assistant Manager in the Indian Oil Corporation Limited, has last come home in January and is bracing up for the world cup title in London. He had beaten World No 1 Son Wan Ho twice before beating top-ranked Chinese shuttler Shi Yuqi twice .

Srikanth reached three straight super series finals this year.

Mr. Mohan said Srikanth had battled injuries this year but overcame with the tremendous support from his team and is expected to reach Hyderabad on Monday evening.
