Panels to probe migration of labour, says Palle

People migrate to Kerala in large numbers from Anantapur in search of jobs

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy on Saturday directed the district administration to form two committees to probe the migration of labour from the district to Kerala, eventually ending up living that State in squalor.

Minister also toured the three mandals of Nallamada, Obula Devara Cheruvu and Amadaguru, all falling under the Puttaparthy Assembly constituency, and interacted with the relatives of those who had migrated.

District Collector Kona Sasidhar said while one committee would go into the issue of migration to Kerala, the other would probe migration from the district to various places in the country. A team, comprising 10 officials and headed by the District Water Management Authority (DWMA) chairman, has already started touring the district to verify claims of migration.

Meanwhile, Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunitha appealed to those who had migrated to other States to return and promised work in the district, even as IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy attributed the exodus of people to higher wages when compared to those under the NREGS scheme.
