Rs.3 cr of gold jewellery, diamonds stolen in Kakinada

Gold jewellery and diamond ornaments estimated at about Rs.3 crore were burgled from a locked house at Peddapuram in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh late on Saturday. The burgalary came to the light when the residents of the neighbourhood spotted the traces of burglary and informed the police.

According to the Peddapuram police, Mandavelli Srinivasa Rao, a dealer of Bharat Gas in the town and a resident opposite Central Bank of India on Vankayalavari Veedhi, left for Hyderabad to attend a family function last week.

Late on Saturday, miscreants gained entry into the bedroom directly by breaking open the window and stolen jewellery from the almirah by using the keys that were very much available in the bedroom. The police called Srinivasa Rao and informed about the incident.

The police said that according to the victim gold jewellery weighting about 3 kg, diamond ornaments and about Rs. 1 lakh in cash was stored in the almirah. The exact details of the booty would be known only when the family returns to the town.

Members of the Clues team and sniffer dogs were pressed into service and the police collected fingerprints from the spot. A case was registered and investigation was on.
