Osmania University accredited to conduct the State Eligibility Test (SET) for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana may lose the accreditation if it fails to conduct the test by February. Those who qualify in the SET, can apply for the teaching posts in colleges and universities even if they don’t possess a Ph.D degree, which is now mandatory for teaching job.
The test was put off once with the Government declaring Milad Un Nabi as an official holiday when it was scheduled on January 4. The test was rescheduled to February 15 but some students now want the exam put off further as the date clashes with the birth celebrations of a tribal leader.
Officials say, the UGC had agreed to put off the date once but changing the date again would be difficult. Apart from the logistics involved in conducting the test in 218 examination centres in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the printing process of exam papers is on while security arrangements have also been made. In these circumstances, shifting date again would mean finding test centres during the exam season beginning in March with SSC, Intermediate and other national level entrance tests lined up.
The OU may forever lose the opportunity to conduct the test as the UGC follows stringent norms while accrediting a university to conduct the SET. “The UGC has appreciated OU’s ability to conduct the test in free and fair manner, but continuous postponement will affect its reputation,” an official said. Moreover, this is the last combined test for both AP and Telangana.
About 1.40 lakh candidates have registered for test in 27 subjects. Candidates can download their hall-tickets from ‘www.settsap.org’ or ‘www.osmania.ac.in’ from February 2. Physically and Visually Challenged students who are not in a position to write the exam on their own and in need of scribe have to make a prior request to the Chief Superintendent of the concerned test centre.

The SET is on par with the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) but eligibility is limited to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana only.
