Organs of ‘brain dead’ man donated

Vital organs of Bhimireddy Somasekhara Reddy, a 19-year-old from Pittalavanipalem in Bapatla mandal, who was declared brain dead by doctors at Ramesh Hospitals, were shifted to various hospitals in Guntur and Chennai.

Mr. Reddy met with a road accident on May 8, and was taken to the hospital in a serious condition.

A medical team consisting of a cardiologist, neurologist and a neurosurgeon declared him brain dead and later informed the Jeevandan Trust.

Krishna Murthy, CEO, Jeevandan Trust, visited the hospital and convinced the relatives of the deceased to donate the vital organs to those in need. A liver and a kidney had been given to Ramesh Hospitals, a kidney to Vedanta Hospitals and the heart was sent to Fortis Hospitals, Chennai.

The deceased heart was shifted to Chennai on Sunday afternoon in an ambulance after the Guntur Urban Police arranged a green channel.
