Opposition parties stage sit-in on the road

One-time settlement of farmers’ loans demanded. As the sit-in was causing heavy traffic jam, police swiftly hauled them into a vehicle and took them to the Saifabad police station.

Opposition members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Thursday staged a sit-in in front of the Assembly building, demanding one-time settlement of farmers’ loan waiver, and protesting against the adjournment of the Assembly without continuing the discussion on farmers’ issues.

Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy, MLAs N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, T. Jeevan Reddy, J. Geeta Reddy, D. K. Aruna, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, N. Padmavathi, A. Sampath Kumar, and T. Rammohan Reddy (all Congress), K. P. Vivekananda and S. Rajender Reddy (TDP), Ch. Ramchandra Reddy, K. Laxman, G. Kishan Reddy and N.V.V.S Prabhakar (BJP), Payam Venkateswarlu (YSRCP) and R. Ravindra Kumar Naik and Sunnam Rajaiah from the CPI and the CPI(M) sat on the busy road in front of the Assembly and shouted slogans against the government.

As the sit-in was causing heavy traffic jam, police swiftly hauled them into a vehicle and took them to the Saifabad police station, from where they were released later.

Earlier, in an unexpected move, Speaker S. Madhusudanachari adjourned the House to Monday, minutes after the session had begun.
