Operation theatre gutted as oxygen cylinders explode

The operation theatre in the Government hospital in Obulavaripalle mandal headquarters in Kadapa district was gutted after two oxygen cylinders exploded there in the wee hours of Saturday.

Medical equipment, furniture, documents and medicines were gutted in the mishap, according to hospital Medical Officer Venkatasubbaiah.

Patients ran helter-skelter on noticing the raging flames, but no casualties were reported. Upon receiving information, a fire tender from Railway Kodur rushed to the hospital and doused the flames. Electrical short circuit was suspected to have caused the mishap.
