As many as one lakh IT jobs will be created in the next two years in Andhra Pradesh. Visakhapatnam will be developed into an IT hub, while Rayalaseema a manufacturing hub and Amaravati the cusp of both, Minister for Panchyat Raj, Rural Development, IT and Communications Nara Lokesh has said.

The TDP general secretary was inaugurating the Gitam Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) Hospital on the Gitam University campus at Rushikonda here on Saturday.

Addressing the students and guests on the occasion, Mr. Lokesh said he had held meetings with the software industry in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad and the general feeling was that social infrastructure – education, healthcare and multiplexes – was still lacking in Visakhapatnam.

Underlining the need to create infrastructure in Visakhapatnam, he said that Gitam University would be a catalyst in creating a vibrant economy in Vizag. Infrastructure was important to attract the best talent not only from within the country but also from outside.

Call to youth

Calling upon the youngsters and intellectuals to participate in politics, he said that they could become the agents of change in society. It took four centuries for the U.S. to become a developed nation. But, Singapore had developed within 40 years.

He expressed optimism that with the advent of technology and global commerce, India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and A.P. under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, could become a developed economy within 15 years.

Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said that the government had taken 26 new initiatives in the PPP mode in the health sector, which was a record. Government hospitals were offering free pick-up and drop facilities to pregnant women and an attendant to encourage hospital deliveries.

The Super Speciality building in the King George Hospital would be completed soon.

Dr Srinivas said that 7,600 students were given fully loaded tabs by the government and said jokingly that M.V.V.S. Murthy, president of Gitam University, would be under pressure to extend the same to his students.

Minister for Energy K. Kala Venkata Rao spoke about various schemes being extended by the State government for the welfare of the poor.

Gitam University Chancellor Koneru Ramakrishna Rao, Vice Chancellor M.S. Prasada Rao and GISMR Medical Superintendent S.V. Varalakshmi were present.
