NTR varsity refers 47 certificates for probe

October 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - KURNOOL:

The scandal involving admissions obtained to MBBS course on the basis of fake caste certificates seems to have wider ramifications with NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) Vice-Chancellor T. Ravi Raju referring the certificates of 47 more students to District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan for checking their veracity.

The police have so far arrested 12 persons including five MBBS students and their parents. The certificates were issued during the tenure of Kallur tehsildar Sivaramudu, who was recently suspended and booked for his alleged complicity in the scandal, according to sources. The five students and their parents who secured the caste (BC) certificates from him (tehsildar) belong to other districts. More students from other districts are suspected to have obtained the fake certificates from the same tehsildar office, according to a prima facie inquiry.

The District Collector instructed 12 Deputy Collectors to inquire into the 47 certificates and submit a report in two days.

Dr. Raju told The Hindu that the certificates were authenticated by officials of BC Welfare Commission during scrutiny done at the time of counselling.

“In fact, it was our officials who exposed the wrong-doers. The information contained in their certificates did not tally with that of the hall-tickets. That was when we grew suspicious and got it investigated. It is now up to the officials concerned of Kurnool district to dig deeper”.
