Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu here on Monday unveiled the of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao as Lord Krishna which was installed between old and new railway bridges at Pushkara Ghat.

Just before attending a ritual in connection with the river festival, the Chief Minister unveiled the statue amidst a large number of his Ministerial colleagues, TDP and BJP MLAs and MLCs.

Police made elaborate security arrangements, anticipating protests from Opposition parties against the installation of the statue.

It is a fact that former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao got stardom as Lord Krishna in many mythological films. However, some leaders opposed the government’s move and dubbed it as an act of appeasing the sentiments of the people of a particular religion.

Though none opposed the installation the statue of NTR, some raised objection to the posture of Lord Krishna.

“No doubt, he (NTR) was a great actor. But we are opposing his statue in the form of Lord Krishna,”said Adireddy Apparao, YSRC MLC.

DCC president Kandula Durgesh said the act of TDP in the statue issue showed their highhandedness.
