Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Joint Action Committee (JAC) have said that no force can stop them from going on strike.

In a statement here on Saturday, JAC convener P. Damodar Rao said the RTC management was in the habit of using the Essential Services Maintenance (ESMA) Act as a tool to thwart protests by the unions. “But the workers' unions are not afraid of ESMA. If the management does not withdraw its attempts to downsize the employees by May 22, we will go ahead with our strike plan,” said Mr. Rao.

Co-convener Ch. Sundaraiah, V. Varahala Naidu and Employees Union leader Y.V. Rao said the workers had exercised enormous patience and had always worked in the interests of the organisation. But their sincere efforts were going unacknowledged, they rued.
