The statue of revolutionary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju will adorn the hallowed precincts of Parliament soon, for which the Central government has given its nod.

Kakinada MP T. Narasimham has received a communiqué to this effect and get the statue made for installing it at the earliest.

Mr. Narasimham told the media that he had written a letter in 2015 requesting the Lok Sabha Speaker to permit installation of the statue, and the matter was referred to a joint committee, which cleared the proposal as per the communication received on Saturday.

The MP said Sitarama Raju had fought valiant battles against the British empire and relentlessly worked for the welfare of the tribal people in the Agency areas. Born in Visakhapatnam district, Sitarama Raju had led the famous ‘Rampa Rebellion’ in the 1920s.

YSRCP MP V. Vijaya Sai Reddy had also written letters to the Centre seeking installation of the statue in Parliament.
