It was business as usual in all the mandals in the Agency area as the bandh called by the banned CPI (Maoist) did not evoke much response on Thursday.
ASP of Paderu Rajkamal said no untoward incident was reported from any part of the Agency.
The bandh was called in protest against the encounters on September 22 and 23, in which five Maoists were killed in the G.K. Veedhi mandal.
In a letter released on Tuesday, Ganesh, secretary of the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) region, said the encounter was “unprovoked.”
The Greyhounds personnel had surrounded and opened fire on the Maoists while they were returning from a meeting, he alleged.
Three Maoists died on the spot, and two others were caught and tortured before being shot dead the following day, he alleged.
As per reports, all shops and establishments remained opened and buses plied as usual. Schools and colleges too functioned.
“We have asked the RTC to ensure that the buses that ply in the interior areas return to the mandal headquarters, especially in the areas such as G.K. Veedhi, Munchingput and Pedabayalu, and dispense with night halt in the interiors,” said SP Attada Babujee. Meanwhile, the police increased combing and area domination exercise and intensified vehicle checks in the sensitive areas.
