Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed the authorities to be in touch with officials of Uttarakhand to help pilgrims from the State if any of them is trapped in the floods there during their Chardham and Manasarovar Yatra.

The State Government has set up a helpline in Telangana Bhavan in Delhi headed by Resident Commissioner Shashank Goel with telephone numbers 011-23380558 and 09871999052. Mr. Goel was in constant touch with the Collectors of Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts, where the impact of floods was stated be high.

All the pilgrims from Telangana, whose total number was not known, were believed to be safe since there were no distress calls, even from their relatives. When contacted, Mr. Goel said over the phone from Delhi: “We have received enquiries from relatives of 21 persons from the State (Telangana) visiting Uttarakhand and forwarded the details to control rooms set up by that State Government at Haridwar and Dehradun so that the matching information received by them, if any, is forwarded to us for helping them”.

According to the information received from Uttarakhand authorities, the flood situation had improved there with the weather getting clear and all those stranded and trapped in floods being brought to safer places. “Uttarakhand officials stated that there is no need for worry now since the weather has improved,” Mr. Goel said.
