Andhra Cricket Association administrators are an ecstatic lot for young Nitish Kumar Reddy, vice captain of Andhra u-16 team, slammed a swashbuckling 441 runs (366b, 60x4, 7x6) in the Vijay Merchant Trophy fixture against Nagaland at Rajkot, thus creating several records both in BCCI as well as in ACA junior domestic history.
The first wicket partnership of 535 runs is the highest opening partnership in any BCCI tournament for ACA; the earliest being 380 runs between Amit Pathak and L.N. Prasada Reddy against Goa, at Goa during 2001-02 season.
Nitish Kumar’s 441 is the second highest individual score in BCCI junior tournament; the highest being 451 scored by Maharashtra’s Vijay Jol, former India under-19 skipper against Assam.
“So far, Nitish scored 1229 runs in six innings at an average of 245.8 and his wickets tally is 18 wickets. With Nitish performance, ACA’s efforts of grooming youngsters from under-14 onwards through academies and at district-level coaching stints are paying dividends,” said G.V.K. Ranga Raju, President, ACA.
“Nitish is the find of the season in junior cricket in the country and he has the wherewithal to to make it big” said Ch. Arun Kumar, secretary, ACA, who announced a cash award of ₹2 lakh.
