The element of design is playing a pivotal role in science and technology and in space science and courses in design offer a plethora of opportunities, said Director, National Institute of Design, Pradyumna Vyas.
Inaugurating the fourth NID campus on the premises of Acharya Nagarjuna University here on Monday, Mr. Pradyumna said that the NID has been recently conferred the status of Institute of National Importance which would further boost the prospects of design contributing to the overall development of the nation. The new recognition would also open up new opportunities for research and exploration for both students and faculty from the NID.
The NID, ANU campus is the fourth such facility after centres in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. The NID offers courses in Bachelors of Design (four years) and Masters in Design (2.5 years).
The NID would be presently housed in the Department of EEE on the campus of Acharya Nagarjuna University where facilities for classrooms, design studios were established. Classes would begin in October, 2015 for the first batch of 53 students.
Joint Collector Ch. Sridhar said that NID would be allotted 50 acres in CRDA limits and assured that all assistance would be provided in establishment of a permanent campus in the district.
