NCSC to hold review meet in November

National Commission for Scheduled Castes Member P.M. Kamalamma on Thursday said the commission would hold a review meeting to address and resolve issues pertaining to schedule castes, in the second week of November.

Ms. Kamalamma, along with Chittoor District Social Welfare Department Joint Director D. Vijaykumar, reviewed the status of representations/memorandums received during her last visit to the district. “Out of the received representations, many of them were not addressed. However, officials have promised to resolve the issues 15 days,” she said.

She added that the commission would strive for safeguarding the interests of Scheduled Castes with emphasis on education and financial aspects. This, she said, would result in the uplift of schedule castes on par with other communities.

Receiving as many as 56 representations on Thursday, Ms. Kamalamma said that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and some universities were not adhering to reservation rules when it came to recruitment and promotions.

“We will be taking special steps to address the problems of Scheduled Castes by the second week of November,” she asserted. Directing police and Welfare Department officials to arrest those involved in atrocity cases,

Ms. Kamalamma stressed the need for conducting awareness campaign on SC/ST atrocity acts, across the State.

The commission will also visit Ongole and Kadapa.
