Nandi drama fest gets under way

Theatre festival inaugurated in Rajahmundry

A.P. State Film Development Corporation (APSFDC) chairman Ambika Krishna stated that State government was going to give Nandi Awards for the best short films from next year and that State short film festival would be conducted in Amaravati next month.

Inaugurating ‘Nandi Natakotsavams-2017’ in Sri Venkateswara Anam Kala Kendram here on Wednesday, he said when he attended a short film function recently he was stunned by the story, making and action in the short film which was told in just an hour. He said he immediately approached Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and appealed to include short films for Nandi Awards, along with T.V., drama and films.

Low budget films

He added that those shooting low budget films below ₹4 crores in the State would be encouraged with free location and a subsidy of ₹10 lakh.

Mr. Ambika Krishna said that this year ‘Nandi Natakotsavam-2017’ is being conducted in five places: Kakinada, Kurnool, Nandyal, Tenali and Rajamahendravaram, where 360 playlets, plays and dramas will be staged by 3600 artists.

He said that 15 plays, play-lets and dramas would be selected for prizes to be given away at a function to be held in Eluru on April 16, adding that the plays would be staged in all the 13 districts after the finals.

GUDA chairman Ganni Krishna, Sub-Collector C.M. Saikantha Varma and Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai spoke.

Actor and singer Jith Mohan Mitra, popular stage artist and Nandi Awardee Janakinath and others were present.
