Reiterating that the Narendra Modi government has deceived Andhra Pradesh by depriving it of the Special Category Status (SCS) and not fully implementing the provisions of the A.P. Reorganisation Act, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his resolve to continue the fight against the Central government both in and outside Parliament.

‘Majority versus morality’

He said the arrogance of the Centre was due to its “majority,” whereas the State stood on the high ground of “morality” as the promises were made by the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government in Parliament and not in any ordinary forum.

Addressing a public meeting as part of the Grama Darshini programme at Tatakuntla here on Friday, Mr. Naidu said the NDA government put the Act on the back-burner and washed its hands off the SCS not because of any technicality but due to political expediency.

While surreptitiously implementing its devious game plan, the Centre continued to say soothing words for the sake of public consumption. It had been troubling the State in many ways, he said.

“We have successfully exposed the BJP’s double-standards during the discussion on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. All the opposition parties supported our cause, for which we are thankful to them,” he observed.

Jagan’s fear

Mr. Naidu said YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would never open his mouth against the Centre due to the fear of landing in prison. Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan, who threw his weight behind the State government, changed his stand later being an opportunist. People were watching their unethical conduct and would deliver a serious blow at the hustings to both these leaders, he added.

He asked why Mr. Pawan Kalyan had kept quiet after the joint fact-finding committee pinned the blame on the Centre.

Mr. Naidu said people should stand by the TDP if they wanted the State to grow, and that he was unsparing in his efforts to achieve all-round development in spite of the huge financial deficit the government was saddled with post-bifurcation.

Earlier, reviewing development and welfare activities in an interaction with the people, Mr. Naidu said he wanted the village to become smart in the coming years, and stated that the Godavari water would be brought under the Chintalapudi lift irrigation scheme in its second phase.
